PLINC and you'll miss it

House Industries unvelied their spectacular "Fanatical Mechanical" PLINC show at Chapman University (the ol' alma mater) last night. The Guggenheim Gallery was packed full of House pieces, Photo-lettering specimens, and well-kept examples of machinery from that era. There was even on-site screen printing from Fresh Pressed!

The only thing more exciting than the show was a lecture with House honcho Rich Roat and master serigrapher David Dodde that was equal parts entertaining and educational. All I want in the world now is a denim vest with a "33" cobra patch on the back.

Anyway, enjoy the photos. Please forgive the blurriness; I was on the verge of design-nerd-overload. Many thanks to Eric Chimenti and Rachelle Woo Chuang for making this happen!

for the kids

This annual report was designed to help tell the amazing, true story about a child who overcame overwhelming attention and communication challenges with the help of First 5 programs. It is a testament to the importance of their programs and the magnitude of the impact they have.

It was truly a privelige to be a part of the story, and we at SSU wish First 5 San Mateo all the best in the future.

Rushin' Constructionism

Some branding work for our comrades at Belmont-based Summit Construction. I have to say, the crispness of small type printed in spot color always makes me smile. Also worth noting is some creative print technique for the logo gradient– we printed a solid of the base red, then screened a darker shade on top of it for the gradient. Krasivyĭ!

Vintage Glam

We've had the privelige of working with John Wayne Airport for some time now, and have kicked off the new year with a new campaign with some new retro-juicy artwork for Orange Coast Magazine. We had a lot of fun working on this one, and there's more in the pipeline so stay tuned!

Hand-lettering

First cut at a new project, soon to become digit-al (yikes) but haven't quite nail-ed (ok, enough!) it yet.

A little explanation- our fair city of Orange has some pretty fascinating history, complete with coach-robbin' outlaws. Of all the ones we read about, Three-fingered Jack had the coolest name by far. And it just so happens that he used to hang out at a little spot on one of our local running trails. You can read up a little more about the spot in the description at trails.com.

So what's going to become of this design? Stay tuned to find out.
